WHERE IS STEINHATCHEE?

Note: I apologize for the delay in posting. The Blogger locked down Kristy’s blog and I couldn't access it. Blogger “robots” were viewing this blogsite as a "spam blog". (A “robot” is a software device, programmed into the Blogger, to monitor potential problems.) I suspect so many people were going to this site the “robots” didn’t know how to relate. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but hopefully the problem is corrected.

Milton, Here for Kristy:

I am in Steinhatchee writing this blog. Where is Steinhatchee? How do you get there? Why would you go there? What would you do at Steinhatchee?

Steinhatchee is a real place with real people who do real things. I am not making this up and I am not crazy. For me, Steinhatchee is a place to rest and renew my mind. To find out how big is the hole that Kristy has left in my mind, body, and spirit.

***

Kristy often liked to give books away on her blog, and I would like to continue that trend. So, here's my plan: Three names will be drawn from the first seventy-five comments that are posted today, telling me where Steinhatchee is. I will give the winners one of Kristy’s books that I have signed, “Milton, Here for Kristy.” (I will sign it because I do not have books with Kristy’s signature that I can give away.) Be sure to post your name with your comment.

***

Now, where is Steinhatchee?

Ask Mel Tillis. He… he… kn… kn… kn… knows… I…I…I…am… su…su…sure.

There is a reason I am writing this which connects Steinhatchee to Kristy and me. It reminds me of Carrabelle. Where is Carrabelle? Why would you go to Carrabelle? What would you do in Carrabelle? Have you ever been to Steinhatchee or Carrabelle? What about Sopchoppy? Or Wakulla?

I have some very funny stories to tell you about these places and Kristy and our love. They are intriguing, sweet, amazing, funny, quaint. So American. So pure.

You will meet some very interesting people you will never forget.

You will have to wait. Does that sound like Kristy?

***

How is Milton?

I am hurting. I cannot determine how big the hole is in my heart, body and life.

I have found a cloud of peace and Kristy left me a chair of strength to rest. Kristy has asked Jesus to send me some help because I asked her to do that moments before she left me.

Greetings Milton,
Steinhatchee is close to Cross City, but on the Gulf if memory serve me right. We would pass thru Cross City on way back and forth from Mobile to Lakeland when attending Good Ole SEBC during the late 60's. I believe it is also a name of a River.

Steinhatchee is a little coastal fishing village on the Gulf of Mexico , in Florida.

I've seen pics of a small building there, which has a mermaid on the door and fishing floats strung on the outside walls.

The sort of place where you can go and just rest in the Lord without having to do any 'hard' thinking.

It reminds me of a place in NSW called Iluka. The most exciting thing that happened there was when the local general store's fridge broke down and they had to get rid of the ice-creams. Heaps of Frangipani's grow there and it's one of my favourite spots.

Well, I didn't know where Steinhatchee was when I first began reading this post, but I do now! I know today is going to not be easy with it being Kristy's birthday. All the holidays the first year are tough to get through. But you will be surrounded by your loving family and southern fried chicken! What's better than that? Having God's throne of strength under you that Kristy left for you. With that you can do anything!

Have a drumstick for me!

WISHING YOU PEACE & JOY THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING TODAY-THIS SPECIAL DAY! YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS & THOUGHTS!

Milton, I have followed the journey you and Kristy have been on for months. I stumbled upon the blog through a maze of links from other sites. I did not think I could go back to the blog once I read the first entry I saw. You see, I lost my best friend - my dad-nearly 10 years ago to the same cancer your best friend, Kristy had. But somehow I was drawn back every day and have followed your journey in silence and prayer. I know the journey is hard. Harder for us now than for them. They are healed! They know God in a way we can't until we join them! And we will see them again and know God as they do now and celebrate with unburdened hearts and with a joy we can't even imagine now!!! I continue to pray for your healing and peace.

Dear Milton, It wouldn't be fair to count me in the book drawing since I know where Steinhatchee is and we visited you and Kristy and Julie, still a baby, in Carrabelle -- at that time both were quaint little fishing villages at the Bend. I just wanted to send you a quick note and let you know you're in my thoughts and I completely understand the hole you're talking about because there is one in me, too, though never the size or intensity of yours. I hope you find a measure of comfort in Steinhatchee. Your friend, Kathy

Dear Milton,

We are still praying for you. I am constantly reminded that this life is so short and eternity is so long. I can't wait to get to know Kristy in eternity and tell her how she encouraged my life.

I'm orginally from Taylor County, Perry Florida. Steinhatchee is in that county. I remember going there many times as a young girl. You've probably driven down to Keaton or Dekle Beach too. I remember a good seafood place at Steinhatchee called Roy's. I don't know if it's still there or not. You can also go out in the woods to Steinhatchee Fallls. It's actually a little 2 ft falls on the river with a small area of rapids. We last visited it sometime ago after my grandmother's burial . My husband and son walked across the rapids in their dress clothes with their pants rolled up.
My family graveyard Mingo Cematary is off of Hwy 19 going south in Dixie County. You have to look really hard for it on the west side of the road right after entering Dixie Co. You have to look for a turn off as you see the gates right off the road, it is on the old Hwy 19 that runs in spots parrell to the present highway. It is very old. If you want to see some Florida history, that is the place. My family is the Hines and the Shaws. My great great grandfather was buried there, he was a solder in the Civil War. So maybe I'll win a book since I know so much about Steinhatchee. (my husband still can't say it right!!)

With our love and prayers,
Yvonne Clanton

You and your family are in our prayers today. May you find rest and comfort in the solace of God's presence.

Steinhatchee is in the Big Bend area. I've been there several times, along with Carrabelle, Sopchoppy and Wakulla. I'm sure I probably know a at least one of the funny stories about Carrabelle.

I would truly treasure a part of Kristy's world and the love that she showed the world through her books.

Continuing to pray for your family.

A lot of people had that problem with not being able to access blogs. I hope it is over!

I have been praying for you and your wife for so long. I was sorry to hear of her passing, but I am so thankful for her joy and presence with God in all of His glory.

The place you mention is in Fla. in the gulf area?

May God's powerful, loving presence sustain you.

Well to be honest with you I had to look it up because I had no idea. It is in Fl. and it would be a wonderful place to go if you like to fish. So now I have learned something new, so if anybody ask me where Steinhatchee is I can tell them. Enjoy your peace and your time with our Lord.
You are in my prayers,
ginger

What a grand time we had with the Family together yesterday. It was wonderful reminiscing about Kristy as we remembered her birth date.

After we feasted on the goodies and dainties we laughed and cried again as we shared the happy memories of Kristy on her 57th birthday. She was our daughter. We remember her with many fond thoughts and always will.

She is one more reason why we look forward to Heaven.

She was a grand Lady!
