WHERE IS STEINHATCHEE?
Milton, Here for Kristy:
I am in Steinhatchee writing this blog. Where is Steinhatchee? How do you get there? Why would you go there? What would you do at Steinhatchee?
Steinhatchee is a real place with real people who do real things. I am not making this up and I am not crazy. For me, Steinhatchee is a place to rest and renew my mind. To find out how big is the hole that Kristy has left in my mind, body, and spirit.
***
Kristy often liked to give books away on her blog, and I would like to continue that trend. So, here's my plan: Three names will be drawn from the first seventy-five comments that are posted today, telling me where Steinhatchee is. I will give the winners one of Kristy’s books that I have signed, “Milton, Here for Kristy.” (I will sign it because I do not have books with Kristy’s signature that I can give away.) Be sure to post your name with your comment.
***
Now, where is Steinhatchee?
Ask Mel Tillis. He… he… kn… kn… kn… knows… I…I…I…am… su…su…sure.
There is a reason I am writing this which connects Steinhatchee to Kristy and me. It reminds me of Carrabelle. Where is Carrabelle? Why would you go to Carrabelle? What would you do in Carrabelle? Have you ever been to Steinhatchee or Carrabelle? What about Sopchoppy? Or Wakulla?
I have some very funny stories to tell you about these places and Kristy and our love. They are intriguing, sweet, amazing, funny, quaint. So American. So pure.
You will meet some very interesting people you will never forget.
You will have to wait. Does that sound like Kristy?
***
How is Milton?
I am hurting. I cannot determine how big the hole is in my heart, body and life.
I have found a cloud of peace and Kristy left me a chair of strength to rest. Kristy has asked Jesus to send me some help because I asked her to do that moments before she left me.

Greetings Milton,
Steinhatchee is close to Cross City, but on the Gulf if memory serve me right. We would pass thru Cross City on way back and forth from Mobile to Lakeland when attending Good Ole SEBC during the late 60's. I believe it is also a name of a River.

Love ya,

Steinhatchee is a little coastal fishing village on the Gulf of Mexico , in Florida.
I've seen pics of a small building there, which has a mermaid on the door and fishing floats strung on the outside walls.
The sort of place where you can go and just rest in the Lord without having to do any 'hard' thinking.
It reminds me of a place in NSW called Iluka. The most exciting thing that happened there was when the local general store's fridge broke down and they had to get rid of the ice-creams. Heaps of Frangipani's grow there and it's one of my favourite spots.

Milton,
I first learned about Kristy in January from an intercessor in Jacksonville. I have followed the blog daily and God would often have me interceding in the middle of the night for you and your family. I pray blessings of comfort, peace, and healing to you, your daughters and the grandchildren. Kristy was such a sweet inspiration. I pray the Holy Spirit rushes in to comfort, fill and heal the hole left in your heart.
Steinhatchee is on the gulf coast of Florida, near Cross City.

Good morning Milton,
Steinhatchee is in western Florida near the coast. A beautiful, quiet place. Just the place where your God will meet you! Lovingly, sharon in virginia
Well, I didn't know where Steinhatchee was when I first began reading this post, but I do now! I know today is going to not be easy with it being Kristy's birthday. All the holidays the first year are tough to get through. But you will be surrounded by your loving family and southern fried chicken! What's better than that? Having God's throne of strength under you that Kristy left for you. With that you can do anything!
Have a drumstick for me!

I had to google it but it was worth it! What a beautiful place. We have been to Gainesville on several occasions for continuing ed courses for my husband at UF. If we had only known then! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE TIP!
WISHING YOU PEACE & JOY THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING TODAY-THIS SPECIAL DAY! YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS & THOUGHTS!
PS You are so blessed to have such a supportive family. You & Kristy not only have blessed us in the marriage realm but also in how supportive & loving your whole family is. What a witness & encouragement & something to strive for that you have shown is attainable! (Here's hoping I'm the one that gets the book too-I wonder if I should pray about it? Ha! Ha! I wonder how many others will pray about it! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Steinhatchee is along the northern Gulf Coast of Florida. It is southeast of Tallahassee and directly west of Gainesville. I've never been there, but have been to Wakulla that you mentioned.

Milton, I have followed the journey you and Kristy have been on for months. I stumbled upon the blog through a maze of links from other sites. I did not think I could go back to the blog once I read the first entry I saw. You see, I lost my best friend - my dad-nearly 10 years ago to the same cancer your best friend, Kristy had. But somehow I was drawn back every day and have followed your journey in silence and prayer. I know the journey is hard. Harder for us now than for them. They are healed! They know God in a way we can't until we join them! And we will see them again and know God as they do now and celebrate with unburdened hearts and with a joy we can't even imagine now!!! I continue to pray for your healing and peace.
It is on the west coast of Florida, west of Gainesville! thanks for lettimg me try to win one of Kristy's beloved books...she lives through her words. God Bless
Hi Milton, I have never heard of Steinhatchee but I just love the name. After googling it and of course seeing what the other have said, I found out its in Florida and it seems to be a beautiful place, where you can 'hear' God without any distractions. I am looking foward to your stories about you, Kristy and Steinhatchee.
Anyway I pray God will continue day after day to fill that hole left in your heart, fill it with the love of family and friends and all those who are praying for you even though they have never met you like myself.
Blessings

Recently a friend directed me to Kristy's blog. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
I knew your father back in the 50's
when I was a camper at Oak Mountain State Park. He was the Alabams State Youth director of what was then called "Christ Ambassadors"
You were a young child at that time.
Steinhatchee is on the west coast of Florida.

I'm so glad you are aware and have some time to think and pray. And Steinhatchee sounds like a perfect place. I need the book because I want to know its connection to all those places you mentioned. I have read your blog all the way even when it was Kristy's blog and don't know how you have done it (other than God strenthening you.) Rest and recoup.

I would love to win one of Kristy's books, but I must tell you that I recently bought a signed copy of "The Heart of the Matter" from Ebay.
I really wanted a book she'd signed. It will be a precious reminder of a wonderful woman.

Gulf coast of Florida. Thanks for keeping up with us : )
Missed your blogging yesterday. Thanks, again for keeping us up dated. So glad that you are getting so R&R and thinking time. May God's love keep filling the hold in your heart.
Steinhatchee is on "my side of Sunny Florida". ( We live in Ft. Myers. ) It is about 50 miles west of Ginnie Springs, we always loved to take our kids to Ginnie Springs, when they were young. US 19 will take a person right to Steinhatchee. It is about 20 mile north of Horseshoe Beach, another beautiful place.
Relax there today and take in God's beauty....hope you catch alot too.
Thanx again,

Steinhatchee? Had to look at a map. Turns out it's not far from another wonderful place I love to go, Suwannee. The family and I have spent many days fishing at Suwannee. It's a long way from anywhere. Hope you find peace and much needed rest and rejuvenation from The Holy Spirit.

Dear Milton, It wouldn't be fair to count me in the book drawing since I know where Steinhatchee is and we visited you and Kristy and Julie, still a baby, in Carrabelle -- at that time both were quaint little fishing villages at the Bend. I just wanted to send you a quick note and let you know you're in my thoughts and I completely understand the hole you're talking about because there is one in me, too, though never the size or intensity of yours. I hope you find a measure of comfort in Steinhatchee. Your friend, Kathy
Happy Birthday, Kristy.
Milton, I received an email from Uncle Oscar (Dad Dykes) last night saying the family plans to remember Kristy's birthday at Tricia's house today. I know this will be a continues clebration of her life. I cherish all of Kristy's books that I have. I hope you will write a true "Christian Love Story" about yours and Kristy's life. It has been a TRUE CHRISTIAN LOVE STORY.
We love you and are keeping you in our prayers. God will heal the hurt that you feel.
Love from your ALabama cousins,

Milton,
I am praying for you today, on our dear Kristy's birthday. I pray being with your family will be a comfort to you. Help is on the way...His peace and His comfort to you heart.
I have almost all Kristy's books...so no need to enter me in the drawing. Spread them around to people who haven't had a chance to read them.
Sending prayers up today from,
Carrie in NJ
Keep doing what you're doing, Milton. It's therapy for the soul. Kristy would be so proud of you.
As for Steinhatchee...hmmm. Could be a village you and Kristy discovered down the rabbit hole, in Wonderland.
Or it could be in your own backyard. I suspect it's somewhere very special, though!
God bless you...
Bonnie
Bro. Milton, I hope you find everything you hope to in that beautiful place in Florida. You have given so much to all of us through your sharing . May the Lord hold you close and give you the needed comfort in the days ahead. We know that the hurt will never completely go away but we can pray that it will lessen somewhat. Thank you again and again for what you have done for all of us.
Milton;
Steinhatchee is a small quaint fishing village on the Gulf of Mexico in sunny Florida. However, it is just another wonderful spot in time for God's cloud of peace to greet you.
Steinhatchee appears to be a fishing resort on the gulf coast of Florida, also home to the Mel Tillis Fishing Competition (or something close to that).
You and your family are definitely in my prayers, and I pray that you will find some time to process while you're there.
Blessings,
Steinhatchee must be a place special to you and Kristy. Celebrate her birthday and feel the hole in your heart grow a teensy bit smaller; Christ's love does that!
Praying for you in San Antonio.
Hmmm. Steinhatchee. Florida?
Steinhatchee is a very special city in your wonderful homestate of FL :)
Still praying for you Milton, your daughters and your grands at this time of transition. May that cloud of peace and chair of strength continue to give your comfort as you figure out how to live life here while your dear Kristy waits for you in our glorious homeland beyond the skies :)

Hello again,
I just realized that today is Kristy's birthday. Her first without her earthly family, but also her first celebrating with JESUS! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRISTY!!!Just imagine the fun they are having :)
Bless you all, her dear family, as you get through today without her. Each day that passes means you're one day closer to the sweet reunion that awaits us all. As the old song says "when we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be"!!!

Milton:
Believe it or not, I know exactly where Steinhatchee is. And, if you eat at any of the restaurants on the river you can ask if they know the Stewarts (Niven, Sylvia Mae, Ida, Danita, etc....); they are my family!!!! I have spent many a long weekend and holiday there. As a matter of fact, my grandparents (The Applewhites) have family from Steinhatchee all the way to Tallahassee.
What memories! We are praying for you and your family. Enjoy that fried chicken in honor of Kristy!

Milton, I am glad you are renewing your mind and gathering your thoughts. I almost feel guilty writing in so I might win a signed book!
Hi Milton,
I'm a Floridian and have never heard of Steinhatchee??? I looked it up and its up towards the Pan Handle in Florida on US 19 & 27.
It looks like their known for fishing.
I remember that today is Kristy's birthday.
Can't imagine the grief you are experiencing. We continue to remember you in our prayers!

Dear Milton
I have no idea where Steinhatchee is located. I live in West Michigan, so have not a clue. I have been reading your blog faithfully since last fall. I too, have red hair, so was immediately drawn to Kristy and her passion for Jesus. You two have taught me more in the past few months than you will ever know. May the Lord continue to fill you with His perfect peace.

I confess I only know where S. is because everyone else posted it's in FL. But I'd love to have a copy of one of Kristy's books so I'm writing this. Milton, the hole in your heart is a beautiful testimony to the love you two shared. Dare I say, "rejoice in it!" even though it hurts so bad you think you'll die. We are praying for you.
Take heart readers that thought you were a day late and a comment short to win Kristy's book...I just noticed that Milton changed the magic number from 50 to 75 :)
Good Luck everyone!

(back for the 3rd time today, I just can't stay away)
p.s. Milton, I second the motion from some other readers that YOU really should write down the stories you're telling here...they're GREAT! Looking forward to reading more...and still praying for you all.
Steinhatchee is in Sunny Florida!
Praying God's peace and presence upon you and your family.
"If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it." I am reminded of the verse in Psalm 77:19 "Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen."
What an awesome way to celebrate Kristy's birthday and life with family. The West Coast of Florida is very peaceful and beautiful.
Hoping and praying you are able to relax, renew, and find peace.
Many Blessings

Milton,
I do know where Carrabelle is, when I was a teen, we went camping at Carabelle. And Sopchoppy, it's near Tallahassee where I lived for a year and now my daughter goes to FSU. They are in the Big Bend area of Florida, so Steinhatchee is also in the Big Bend area of Florida.
I think it's wonderful you continue to blog for Kristy. I have been reading this blog daily ever since she was diagnosed and I want to read more of your stories about your wonderful marriage to such a lovely lady.
You and your family continue to be in my prayers that God will help you through this time of loss. But you will all be reunited one day.

Milton,
My blog was blocked last week too by blogger. Same old s*pam robots lurking. I'm glad you're all back up now.
Well, I googled it and found it near the Gulf of Mexico. :)
May you find rest and peace for your soul there, Milton.

Steinhatchee is a small town in Florida. It's great for scalloping. May the Lord give you a refreshing, renewal time and that you see His hand at work.
Happy birthday, Kristy.
Missed you yesterday, Milton. I was so glad to see you "here" today.
As always, sending you my blessings.
You and the family are in thoughts and prayers on Kristy's birthday.
She is celebrating in Heaven with her sweet precious Lord.
May you find some solace today in Steinahatchee which is in the Big Bend area of FL, and home, I believe of the Mel Tillis and Friends Fishing Tournament.
Dear Milton,
We are still praying for you. I am constantly reminded that this life is so short and eternity is so long. I can't wait to get to know Kristy in eternity and tell her how she encouraged my life.
I'm orginally from Taylor County, Perry Florida. Steinhatchee is in that county. I remember going there many times as a young girl. You've probably driven down to Keaton or Dekle Beach too. I remember a good seafood place at Steinhatchee called Roy's. I don't know if it's still there or not. You can also go out in the woods to Steinhatchee Fallls. It's actually a little 2 ft falls on the river with a small area of rapids. We last visited it sometime ago after my grandmother's burial . My husband and son walked across the rapids in their dress clothes with their pants rolled up.
My family graveyard Mingo Cematary is off of Hwy 19 going south in Dixie County. You have to look really hard for it on the west side of the road right after entering Dixie Co. You have to look for a turn off as you see the gates right off the road, it is on the old Hwy 19 that runs in spots parrell to the present highway. It is very old. If you want to see some Florida history, that is the place. My family is the Hines and the Shaws. My great great grandfather was buried there, he was a solder in the Civil War. So maybe I'll win a book since I know so much about Steinhatchee. (my husband still can't say it right!!)
With our love and prayers,
Yvonne Clanton

You and your family are in our prayers today. May you find rest and comfort in the solace of God's presence.
Steinhatchee is in the Big Bend area. I've been there several times, along with Carrabelle, Sopchoppy and Wakulla. I'm sure I probably know a at least one of the funny stories about Carrabelle.
I would truly treasure a part of Kristy's world and the love that she showed the world through her books.
Continuing to pray for your family.

you are in my prayers.
A lot of people had that problem with not being able to access blogs. I hope it is over!
I have been praying for you and your wife for so long. I was sorry to hear of her passing, but I am so thankful for her joy and presence with God in all of His glory.
The place you mention is in Fla. in the gulf area?
May God's powerful, loving presence sustain you.
Well to be honest with you I had to look it up because I had no idea. It is in Fl. and it would be a wonderful place to go if you like to fish. So now I have learned something new, so if anybody ask me where Steinhatchee is I can tell them. Enjoy your peace and your time with our Lord.
You are in my prayers,

What a grand time we had with the Family together yesterday. It was wonderful reminiscing about Kristy as we remembered her birth date.
After we feasted on the goodies and dainties we laughed and cried again as we shared the happy memories of Kristy on her 57th birthday. She was our daughter. We remember her with many fond thoughts and always will.
She is one more reason why we look forward to Heaven.
She was a grand Lady!
