WEATHER'S NICE IN FLORIDA

Everybody's saying how much they're enjoying the weather. See, in Florida,we joke that our weather is hot and hotter. But that's totally not true! It's 70 degrees year round in Florida. It's 70 in our houses, 70 in our cars, 70 at the office, 70 at church. Big grin!

I love this cooler weather in the 70s. Nice.

Reminds me to make sure I include weather elements in my fiction writing. It adds depth and texture to a novel.

One of the best compliments I have ever gotten was because of a scene I included in Searching for Mom that described the weather. So I will agree that weather elements should be included in fiction. I think it works best when the weather is a major character in the scene rather than just scenery. It is one thing to say, "it was a dark and story night, but the fire inside was warm and inviting" and something completely different to say, "the rain hitting the windshield kept him from seeing the road clearly. The wipers did little good. He knew a curve was coming up, but where was it? He wasn't sure. All he could see was a blur through the streams of water. The lights of another car hit him in the face. Were they on the right side of the road? Was he? He wasn't sure. He heard the sound of gravel on the fender as his front tire went off the road. He jerked it back to the left. Please God, don't let me hit that car, he prayed." etc.
